Bible Verses about Anxiety and Worry

Worry is mostly a product of a heartfelt but unmet desire, the uncertainty of what the future holds, or otherwise. In any case, the Bible urges us not to worry about our lives or tomorrow. Jesus teaches that God cares about us than we may possibly think. Below are some Bible verses about anxiety, worry, or depression.

The Bible verses below are in the American Standard Version (ASV).

1. Matt 6:25 – Therefore I say unto you, be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than the food, and the body than the raiment?

26. Behold the birds of the heaven, that they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; and your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are not ye of much more value then they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add one cubit unto the measure of his life? 28 And why are ye anxious concerning raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God doth so clothe the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, [shall he] not much more [clothe] you, O ye of little faith? 31 Be not therefore anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 For after all these things do the Gentiles seek; for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

2. Matthew 6:34 – Be not therefore anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

3. Phil 4:6 – In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

4. Matthew 10:19 – But when they deliver you up, be not anxious how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that hour what ye shall speak.

Mark 13:11 – And when they lead you to judgment , and deliver you up, be not anxious beforehand what ye shall speak: but whatsoever shall be given you in that hour, that speak ye; for it is not ye that speak, but the Holy Spirit.
Luke 12:11 – And when they bring you before the synagogues, and the rulers, and the authorities, be not anxious how or what ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:

5. Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith Jehovah, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope in your latter end.

6. Isaiah 59:1 – Behold, Jehovah’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: vs 2. but your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, so that he will not hear.

7. Hebrews 13:5 – Be ye free from the love of money; content with such things as ye have: for himself hath said, I will in no wise fail thee, neither will I in any wise forsake thee.

8. Isaiah 41:10 – Fear thou not, for I am with thee; be not dismayed, for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

9. 1 Peter 5:7 – casting all your anxiety upon him, because he careth for you.
